THE WATERBOYS, AMSTERDAM 22ND NOVEMBER 2000 REVIEW BY NIELS BROER Here a short review of the Paradiso gig last night. I have to tell you that I don't have the poetic writing capacity of my friend Michael Moensters, but I will give it a try. We ( Harry and me) arrived at about 19.00 hours at Amsterdam, were it was already raining ( as usual in november). When we arrived at the Paradiso we were just able to shake hands with Mike who just got in a taxi. Mike said to me you are Niels Broer ( so he recognized me now). After that we went in the Paradiso, were we spoke to Adam a few minutes before he started with his songs, I didn't know if it had anything to do with Amsterdam?? but he really looked tangled. At 21.10 then the Waterboys appeared on stage. In comparison to the Rees gig the show was somehow shorter but the sound quality was fabulous. Unfortunately I didn't got a setlist but the songs they played were Let it happen/Glastonbury song/Bring 'em all in/Is she conscious/ All the things she gave me/Strange boat/The return of pan/Charlatan's lament/ Dumbing down the world/Wind in the wires/Savage earth heart/Don't bang the drum/ The whole of the moon/We are Jonah and Fisherman's blues. Maybe it was because it was in Amsterdam but not so much songs from the last album. The sound and the band were incredible good, the same for the audience. They just didn't want the show to be over and when you saw the look in the eyes and the enthousiasm of the band it was really a special evening. Up to Brussels on saturday. |
